  • The site is at the middle of Bengaluru's business district and the legacy of Nalli set the tone for the design process.

From the outset we were particular that the showroom stands out distinctly as a fabric store. So we started with the Visual merchandise being an "unfolding story of fabrics". We also broadly considered the user group as the traditional customers and new age explorers. The large square like floor plate of the store opening into the facade, gave us an opportunity to divide the retail area into a self-assisted path, that we called a light river in the centre and niches along the periphery, giving a sense of a market place or a mela. We looked at the transition space, i.e., the staircase from ground floor to first floor as a place to introduce the journey of the loom to customers. Here an art collage speaks of the presence of fabric in every momentous occasion of life, particularly of women. As customers take in this narration and turn around the landing, they are welcomed by a river of light and an ocean of fabrics.
